About Digital Art

Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay"), is an invented name for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray". It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne, a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints.

On receipt of your photo(s) we spend some studio time ensuring the digital image is in an ideal state to be printed and, no doubt adorn your home or business. This includes removing any red eye or blemishes (unless told otherwise!). This studio time, combined with our online editing tool is what separates us from the competition, thus enabling us to produce the perfect finished product.

About Our Products

Our finished products are handmade items, prepared by digital art enthusiasts using specialist equipment. We use the finest artists canvas and papers for all of the prints we produce, which are sourced from some of the most prominent international art suppliers. Our museum quality artists stretcher bars are made of the finest quality kiln dried fir wood, which has the advantage of being very light, yet extremely hard wearing and not susceptible to warping like standard pine or other softwoods.

Each stretcher bar features a rounded back edge which is designed to ensure that the canvas is always kept a full ½" (13mm) above the stretcher bar to ensure that there can be no ghost impressions on the canvas. These stretcher bars also incorporate 'wedges' which are placed in each corner and allow the canvas to be stretched extremely tightly over the frame. It also allows the canvas to be re-stretched over time, which can be of particular importance for the larger sizes we offer.

Although our canvas prints are extremely easy to hang by simply resting the frames on two screws or nails, we include patented CWH Hangers for Canvas Art with every print. The unique design incorporates a cut-out which allows the print to be hung on a standard 2 pin picture hook (also supplied). Using these hangers ensures that the finished print is ‘pulled’ flush to the wall and results in a very secure fixing with minimum fuss.
